The most Westerly lighthouse on Mainland Great Britain. Built in the Egyptian style and not only a beautiful and fascinating place, but a top spot to see whales and dolphins from the mainlain.

It’s about 2 hours drive from the hotel, but you get to explore much of the peninsulas when you do it, so it’s highly recommended. It’s actually one of the stops on our favourite loop. Across on the ferry from us to Fishnish on Mull. Turn right and head to Tobermory and pick up some lunch bits from Tobermory Bakery (where our wonderful pies come from). Then use the Tobermory-Kilchoan ferry to head back to the mainland – keeping a good eye out for dolphins, whales, basking sharks, white tailed eagles and endless sea birds. Once you get to Kilchoan, head out of the ferry port (having scanned the water for otters) and turn left toward the lighthouse. Once you turn off to the lighthouse, you’ve got 2 options – Sanna bay, probably one of the best beaches in the world – and the lighthouse itself. Make time to do both! Lunch at either with some time to look out for cetaceans from the foghorn. Then head back along the long and winding road back to Strontian and then through Morvern to us. It’s a wonderful day out.

A lovely intro to the lighthouse from our friend Sam Grant (Scotland with the Wee White Dug) – https://www.facebook.com/profile/100044527205649/search/?q=arnamurchan%20lighthouse
